    Location

    Deer Valley consists of four main areas: Upper Deer Valley, Lower Deer Valley, Deer Crest, and Empire Pass. These communities surround and intertwine with Deer Valley Resort and are within five miles of Park City’s historic Main Street.

    Lower Deer Valley is conveniently located at the base of Deer Valley Resort, about a mile from many of the top attractions along Old Town’s historic Main Street, including the Park City Museum and a myriad of art galleries, gourmet restaurants, nightlife venues, and local boutiques. Lower Deer Valley is home to Deer Valley Resort’s main base lodge, Snow Park Lodge, which attracts countless skiers during the winter and hosts a variety of concerts and special events in the summer.

    Upper Deer Valley is an affluent community encompassing the southern end of Park City. This coveted residential community offers an unsurpassed mountain lifestyle, with breathtaking panoramic mountain vistas and stunning homes located slopeside or a short walk away from the ski runs.     History of Deer Valley Resort at a Glance

    • Skiing was already prevalent in the area in the 1930s, decades before the Deer Valley Resort was opened. The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built the first cross-country ski trails, ski jumps, slides, toboggan runs, and other facilities in 1936. Local residents built The first ski lifts largely out of Lodgepole Pines in 1946.
    • The area was initially known as the Snow Park Ski Area before Deer Valley Resort was opened.
    • Development for the Deer Valley Ski Resort began after plans from the Royal Street Corporation were approved in 1975.
    • Deer Valley Resort officially opened to the public in 1981. At the time, the resort had one double chairlift and four triple chairlifts.
    • The resort underwent a major expansion in 1998 with the addition of two mountains and a gondola that provided access to the resort from a new base area.
    • Deer Valley Resort hosted the alpine men’s and women’s slalom events, as well as the freestyle moguls and aerials, during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
    • Today, Deer Valley Resort encompasses over 2,026 acres, including six mountains, six bowls, 670 acres of snowmaking, and over 930 acres of glade skiing.
    • Deer Valley Resort does not allow snowboarders.
    • Many skiers like Deer Valley Resorts for wide and gently rolling green and blue runs.

(one of my favorite summer activities!)  Enjoy spectacular classical, chamber, and pop arrangements from the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera at the Deer Valley Music Festival, an eight-week concert series held at St. Mary’s Church, the Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater, and other venues throughout Park City.
    • Savor the Summit. Park City’s historic Main Street becomes a dream destination for foodies each June as the city hosts Savor the Summit, the largest dinner party in Utah. Savor mouthwatering culinary creations from top restaurants and enjoy live music performances while the sun sets behind Main Street.
